Increasing physician referrals is a way to continue to grow your practice in a struggling economy. 

But what if you’ve fallen behind on your referral network strategy?

Or haven’t even started yet?

Here are five things you can implement in your practice today to attract referring doctors.

Simplify the referral process with an online referral tool.

Referring offices who understand how much time a good online referral tool saves, prefer to refer patients online the same way you prefer to shop on Amazon, get food from Grubhub, or order groceries online.

And that’s what you have the opportunity to offer your referral partners in an online referral tool.

Don’t have an online referral tool? Look into platforms such as Jotform that enable you to set up HIPAA compliant referral tools in no time!

Don’t steal business from referring doctors.

Be cautious about absorbing referred patients into your practice.

Are you a cataract surgeon selling glasses or a plastic surgeon doing fillers and injections?

If these services are competing with your referring doctors, establish a protocol to ensure these services are not offered to their patients.

Send an eblast or text campaign with a practice update.

Keep your practice top of mind by regularly communicating practice updates, policy changes, new technology, and other useful information to referring providers. 

Pick 5 doctors whose referrals have stopped or slowed…

Give them a call or drop by to thank them for their partnership and ask how you can serve them better.

Perhaps there was a miscommunication or misunderstanding that can be cleared up.

Or…

Their feedback will allow you to improve your process and regain their trust.

Thank them for their valued partnership.

Recognizing these are patients you would not have the privilege of caring for otherwise and gratitude for referrals can go a long way to strengthen relationships.
