Do you ever feel like you’re on a hamster wheel?
You’re running as fast as you can but not really getting anywhere.
I’m a little embarrassed to tell you that I find myself in this position more often than I’d like to admit.
I have all these great ideas of resources, projects, or strategies that I want to develop for my clients. So I get to work.
Which is a good thing right? (This is where the hamster wheel comes into play.)
I’m working on all of these different things. Working hard. On really good things I can’t wait to share with clients.
The trouble is, I begin to work on all of these great ideas at once.
And when you work on too many things at once, even good things, your focus gets spread so thin that nothing ends up getting done.
I’m guessing you’ve been there too. I know this because I see it in almost every single practice I work with.
Maybe you’re working hard.
Really hard.
But on too many things.
Or the wrong things. Or the right things in the wrong order.
And you’re not making the progress you should be.
You’re on the hamster wheel.
It’s really easy to do in a busy practice with so much going on. We’ve all been there at some point.
So how do you get off the hamster wheel?
It’s quite simple really…
Get ready for the profound truth.
Drumroll please…
You just step off.
That’s it, you choose to get off the hamster wheel and step off.
Notice I did not say it’s easy.
But it is simple.
Instead of focusing on too many different things at once, running as fast as you can yet getting nowhere…
Pick out the one thing that will either (1) move the needle the most or (2) has to be done before the needle can move.
Do that one thing. Focus all your energy on doing that one thing and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you were able to accomplish the one thing.
Now that you’ve gained some traction…
Then move on to the next one thing, then the next, and the next.
Before you know it, you’ve accomplished more in a few days or weeks than you have in months.
Why?
Because your time, energy, and focus were not spread too thin across too many different projects.
You achieve what you focus on.
What’s the one thing or area of your practice that needs your focused effort?
Perhaps it’s your call center. Nothing else matters if patients can’t get through, can’t get scheduled, or don’t have a good experience on the phone.
Maybe you’re losing valuable patient referrals to the competition because you left your physician referral program on autopilot.
Speaking of physician referral programs…
Whether you’ve been on the physician relations hamster wheel or on autopilot, either doing everything or doing nothing, if you’re ready to build your referral network and get more referrals…
And who couldn’t use more referrals?
Figure out what that one thing is and focus your efforts there.
And if you find yourself back on the hamster wheel or get stuck along the way, let’s hop on a quick discovery call to see what might help!
