Co-management is a hot topic in the industry right now.
I’m going to say something that’s going to come as a shock to some of you…
You don’t have to co-manage to grow a referral network.
There is a common misperception in Ophthalmology that you have to co-manage if you want to reach out to potential referring doctors.
There are a lot of factors that go into the decision to co-manage and each practice has to make that decision for themselves.
But…
Whether or not you choose to co-manage doesn’t change the fact that patients in your community need care.
And…
Primary eye care doctors in your community need great specialists and surgeons to refer those patients to.
How will they know you exist if you don’t tell them?
Is your plan to sit around and hope they somehow stumble onto your web site and miraculously show up at your practice?
Why wouldn’t you let referring doctors know about the services you provide and that you’re standing by ready to care for their patients?
My point is this…
You can build amazing referral relationships and a strong referral network with or without offering co-management.
Have an amazing co-management program? Great.
Haven’t gotten started with co-management yet? Cool.
Aren’t sure you want to co-manage? OK.
No matter where you stand on the issue of co-management…
Take the pressure off yourself and just get started.
Go ahead…
Shake some hands and let referring doctors know how you can serve their patients.
