Recently, I told you about my new virtual assistant.
And… How I’m getting things done that I just wasn’t able to before.
Why in the world did I wait sooooo long to get help?!?!?
In one of Jen Olmstead’s recent newsletters, she said, “In business, it’s tempting to linger alone in the suck.” (By the way, if you don’t have enough emails filling up your inbox and are looking for a marketing newsletter to read, Jen’s is great!)
In business, it’s tempting to linger alone in the suck.
JEN OLMSTEAD
That’s so true.
Why do we do that???
But (lightbulb moment here)…
We don’t have to linger alone in the suck trying to figure it out as we go and hoping someday to get there.
Here are 3 lessons having a virtual assistant taught me that you can steal for your business.
Waiting around hoping to figure it out (or wasting too much time trying) won’t get you where you need to go.
Have you ever just waited around for something to happen with no results?
Or… Wasted too much time trying to figure something out on your own?
At some point, we decide it’s not worth it and give up.
But… What if it is worth it?
And… What if there’s someone out there with the information you need who can offer the shortcut to where you want to go?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
There’s someone out there who’s been where you’re looking to go. Chances are they have the resources and information you’re looking for and are willing to share it. Reach out to a coach or a trusted colleague who’s been where you want to go. Get their advice and take their shortcuts.
Find someone to collaborate with.
Seek out someone you can brainstorm ideas and share insights with. Reach out to someone who’s a few steps before or behind you in the process. Join a mastermind.
Or… Find someone who’s already been where you want to go… A coach, a guide, or a new team member to join you on the journey that can get you where you aren’t able to take yourself (or at least get you there a lot faster).
Here’s the thing about my virtual assistant…
I can do a lot of the things she does (or at least figure out how to do them… eventually).
So… I kept trying to do more things in a day than humanly possible waiting around hoping the schedule would get better (it didn’t).
And… Taking too much time trying to figure it out on my own.
I know some of you reading this are in the same boat because I talk to practices every single day doing the exact same thing. (Hey, at least I’m in good company, right?)
If you’ve been doing this referral network thing on your own for awhile and you’re tired of slogging through the suck alone…
