The other day, I was catching up on some industry blogs when one particular post stood out to me.
As I began reading, something seemed familiar. That’s when I realized I was reading content from one of my articles. An industry “creative” agency had copied original content from my web site word for word and presented it as their own.
I had been plagiarized.
I was stunned (and more than a little miffed)…
But then I remembered that imitation is the highest form of flattery.
Many of you have experienced something similar in your own practice. Perhaps a competitor has begun to imitate your methods or even worse, pass your ideas off as their own. When you are doing things well, the competition will take notice and begin to imitate you.
When the competition starts gunning for you, it’s easy to concentrate on them.
But that’s a mistake.
Focusing too much on the competition causes you lose sight of your primary goal; providing the best possible outcomes and experiences for your patients and referring partners.
Sure, keep a pulse on the competitive landscape in your market and continue to learn best practices. That’s good business. But spend your most valuable resources of time and energy taking amazing care of your patients, refining your processes and being the best practice you can be.
I like how culture coach and leadership expert, Brian Kight (https://www.tbriankight.com/), puts it…
It doesn’t matter, get better or I.D.M.G.B.
Haven’t started a Referral Network Program yet? I.D.M.G.B.
Are you the market leader in your area for co-management? I.D.M.G.B.
Still using home grown spreadsheets to track your progress? I.D.M.G.B.
Focused too much on the competition and lost sight of your own goals? I.D.M.G.B.
No matter where your practice is on the practice growth journey, you can always get better.
So… When the competition starts gunning for you, stay focused on getting better. Like the famous quote says, “Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners.”
Speaking of getting better… If you’re ready to grow your physician referral network…
And who doesn’t want more referrals?
Because it doesn’t matter, get better.
