Building a business is not nearly as valuable as building a reputation.

Building a business is tough, but without a reputation, especially a good one, building a business becomes almost impossible.

In the world of healthcare, what does this mean for (1) your practice, (2) your referral network, and (3) your physician liaison?

First and foremost, patient care has to be the top priority. Without great care, a good reputation just doesn’t exist.

Are you offering exceptional care in a welcoming environment? If not, rest assured that plenty of your competitors are.

If you want to put yourself in the best position for practice growth, build your reputation as a practice who takes excellent care of patients. 

Without serving patients well, it’s also impossible to grow a network of referring providers. Who wants to refer patients someplace they won’t get good care?

If you know your reputation could use some help, work on fixing that before even thinking about trying to grow a referral network. 

If you’re serving patients well, are you also serving your referral sources well? 

Do you value the privilege of caring for their patients? 

Serve referring providers by offering simple ways to refer patients, seamless communication and unprecedented service. Paying attention to the details that matter to them will set you apart from the competition and set you up for long term referral partnerships.

And what about your physician liaison? What kind of reputation are they building?

Do they show up on time? Do they follow up in a timely manner? Do they follow through and do what they say they’re going to do?

Your physician liaison is a direct reflection of your practice. Make sure they are building the reputation you want presented among referring providers.

If you take great care of patients, serve your referral network well, and have a physician liaison who follows up and follows through, you’re well on your way to becoming the respected referral partner of choice in your market.

If your practice is offering great patient experiences and you’re ready to grow your referral network, don’t leave it to chance.
